Hello Land Park Neighbors,

Some of you may be wondering “what is the current situation around Land Park’s city council representation?” After new city districts were approved on December 16th, the city announced new district council members would be in place “effective immediately.” The LPCA did not hear of any problems until we received a message from our former City Councilmember, Katie Valenzuela on April 6th Redistricing CMKV 4-6-22. This change comes over three months after the initial city announcement. At the moment, we are a bit confused about this sudden revision.

After redistricting, we made it a point to follow the City’s instructions and build a relationship with our new district representative. That’s what we’ve done. The LPCA is very pleased with D7 Councilman Rick Jennings and his wonderful team. We’ve discussed goals for 2022 including park improvements, summer events and support for public safety in our neighborhood. There are many positives happening right now and we want to keep that momentum going.

Concerning how to proceed, we spoke with Rick Jennings office yesterday. Because this issue remains unclear, we agreed to keep moving forward with our relationship.  As far as constituent services go, the Jennings team will continue to serve the Land Park neighborhood. Rick Jennings will attend the Easter event and remain a judge as scheduled. We plan to include the Jennings team in our spring and summer community meetings as well.

City attorneys are reviewing redistricting guidelines and sharing their opinions. We respect the city’s right to do so and will be patient. Although the city attorney’s office is suggesting we return to prior district representation,  the city council has not agreed upon, nor approved exactly how to do this as of today (8:30 am 4/7/22). If things change, the Jennings team will update us and we will share with the Land Park community.

No matter the current situation we prefer to look forward, not behind us. There are plenty of reasons to join the LPCA and be the change that makes 2022 a great year for Land Park!
