Below are recent updates from SacPD for February and March 2022. Gun violence is a hot topic and Sacramento PD make incredible efforts to remove illegal firearms from the streets.
Update From Lieutenant Brian Kinney:
Nextdoor continues to be a great tool for our City. I would just like to send out one reminder regarding its use. We (SPD) are not able to see any of the posts made by community members unless that post is a direct response to something SPD has posted. Please continue to share information with one another but also make sure police are notified of the incident. For emergencies or crimes in progress, call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, call (916) 808-5471.
Our officers continue to do great work in our communities. Here are a few examples of some notable investigations:
On 2/24/22, officers responded to the 5700 block of 28th St on the report of an armed subject. Officers were able to safely evacuate the other residents out of the house. Officers and later our SWAT Team set up a perimeter around the house while members of our Crisis Negotiation Team began dialogue with the subject. After several hours, the subject exited the house on his own and was safely detained without incident. This is an excellent example of how our officers are able to peacefully resolve dangerous situations.
On 3/3/22, officers responded to the 3000 block of 29th Ave on the report of a burglary in progress. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle leaving the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The subject failed to stop and led officers on a vehicle pursuit. The subject was ultimately arrested after the vehicle pursuit ended.
On 3/4/22, members of our GET Team contacted a subject in the 2300 block of Fruitridge Rd related to an ongoing narcotics investigation. During the investigation, two firearms were located along with Fentanyl. The subject of the investigation was arrested without incident.
On 3/10/22, officers responded to the 2400 block of 28th St on the report of a robbery. During the robbery, the subject threatened store security with a knife. Officers were able to detain the subject without incident.
On 3/12/22, officers responded to the area of Broadway and 15th St on the report of a subject attempting to break into a vehicle. Officers located the subject and were able to take him into custody without incident.
On 3/13/22, officers responded to the 2400 block of Fruitridge on the report of a robbery. Responding officers located the subject leaving the area and were able to safely detain him.
On 3/14/22, officers responded to the 5300 block of Freeport Blvd on the report of a SPD bait bike theft. Officers located the subject with the bike nearby and were able to take him into custody without incident.
On 3/15/22, officers from our POP team contacted a subject in the 3100 block of 23rd Ave. During the investigation, the subject was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. The subject was safely detained and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
On 3/15/22, members of our GET Team conducted a traffic stop in the area of Franklin Blvd and 41st Ave. During the investigation, a loaded firearm was located. The subject was detained without incident.
Update on Neighborhood Explosions:
I hope this message finds you well. As many of you recall, in January we investigated a series of reported and unreported explosions in and around the 4000 block of 34th Street. During the investigation, our officers and detectives served a search warrant at a residence and seized active pipe bombs, along with other related evidence. An arrest was made on that incident.
Detectives continued conducting extensive follow-up to identify additional suspect(s) in the explosions, and a second suspect was identified. It was revealed that he resided within our south command. On Wednesday morning, our officers and detectives served a search warrant at his residence that was located within the Deerfield / Mesa Grande neighborhood. During the search, explosive precursor chemicals, fusing, and pipes were located. These items were consistent with the materials recovered during the initial investigation. The second suspect was arrested on Wednesday. The Sacramento Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU), Sacramento Area Apprehension Team (SAAT), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) all played an integral role in the investigations and related apprehensions.
