Cruising for Community is a positive push to help make our communities be spaces where youth and residents can learn, grow, and thrive! Sacramento’s Sunday, May 29th event will focus on higher education and civic engagement by making college resources available to attendees and informing people about the upcoming election and encouraging them to get out and vote. There will also be a scholarship fundraiser and giveaway tied to the event with over $2,000 dollars being given out to Sacramento youth.
Goals of the Event:

● Strengthen a college going culture by improving the visibility of College Students from the community

● Increase access to college resources such as academic support programs, financial aid and scholarships

● Remind attendees about the upcoming elections and the importance of their vote/voices being heard

● Encourage people to get involved in their community with local groups and efforts seeking to improve conditions

Future Scholarship Fundraiser and Process Two thousand dollars has been secured for scholarships. A week from the event, there will be a GoFundMe fundraiser launch, on the Brown Issues platform, to bring in additional funds. These funds will be placed in a pool and Lowrider Chapters President’s will be invited in to create and design a process for how these additional funds should be given out to Sacramento area youth (President’s are also welcome to send representatives). Two meetings will be held in June to discuss application design. In July the application will go public with an early August end date. Then, these additional scholarships will be given out late August at a BBQ or event space.
