Saturday, March 1, 2025 9:00am – 11:30 am Location: Behind Fairytale Town in William Land Park
Please join LPVC this Saturday for their first park workday of the Corps’ 2025 season! Saturday’s forecast is for dry weather and morning temperatures in the low-60’s – making for very comfortable weather as we tackle a number of important park projects. Join them at Base Camp in the large picnic area behind Fairytale Town.
March is Tree Planting Month in William Land Park
Some of you probably know that the best time of year to plant new trees is in the late fall or early spring. So, at the final 2024 park workday, Corps members planted 15 new trees. They will be following that up with the planting of 15 additional new trees this Saturday! This is just a partial “down payment” on the huge number of trees LPVC will be planting over the next several years. Why so many? While some of the new trees are replacing ones we lost in the major storm early last year, the real driver of reforestation of the park is that a surprisingly large proportion of our park trees are at the end of their expected lives.
The trees are being provided by the Sacramento Tree Foundation with funding from the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District.
Major Leadership Change in the Corps – Craig Powell is Stepping Down as Corps President!
Craig Powell, who founded the Corps 15 years as a project of the Land Park Community Association, is ending his long tenure as LPVC president. Join LPVC on Saturday for public recognition of Craig’s long and faithful service to William Land Park and the larger Land Park community. Long-time Corps board member and team captain, Art Taylor, has been selected by the Corps board to assume leadership of the Corps.
