Every 10 years the City of Sacramento goes through a redistricting process.  It’s moving quickly this time, but you still have the opportunity to participate. Links are below to review all Sacramento City redistricting details. This article is to provide the short version for how to take quick and easy action.

What can redistricting do?

  • Rebalance the population for better representation among all districts.
  • Move neighborhoods into more common-sense groupings where City Council members are better aligned with the communities they represent.
  • Provide residents with a stronger “voice” for issues important to their specific neighborhood and culture.

How can you get involved? Support a COI Map!

Vote for a Communities of Interest (COI) map for your district (also called “bubble maps”). It’s a quick and easy option.  COI maps are designed by groups of citizens who’ve evaluated district boundaries to suggest a map more representative of neighborhood needs. Communities of Interest include neighborhood associations.

You can “heart” a COI map: These maps are the first step for citizens to express what neighborhoods would prefer to be in the same district together. The LPCA uploaded a COI map to request that all of Land Park be reunited into one district. This includes Land Park, Upper Land Park and South Land Park. Historically, these three neighborhoods were in one district. There is a map titled: “Land Park Community Association COI”, if you like it, “heart” the map and make your comments.

Deadline to “heart” and comment on any COI map is October 13th. Click on this link to get there: https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Clerk/Services/Redistricting/Community-of-Interest
