Next time you drive down Sutterville Road and pass 17th, you may notice The William Land Golf Course has a new sign marking the entrance.

At almost 100 years old, the William Land nine-hole course is the oldest public golf course in the Sacramento area. Construction began in 1923 for $18,346. The original clubhouse was completed in 1924 and cost $8,821. Over the years, there have been some changes in the configuration of various fairways and holes, currently measuring 5,208 yards. The current clubhouse was built in 1958 for $38,951.

The course used to be managed by Sacramento City staff but changed hands to Morton Golf a few years back. Morton also manages Bing Maloney, Bartley Cavanaugh, and Haggin Oaks public golf courses. The change in management brought significant improvements, such as better grounds maintenance and new golf carts. More projects are underway for this year as well.

Curt David oversees the William Land Golf Course and is currently working on plans for a notable 100th anniversary!
