On a chilly January 6th our LPCA board met with our new D7 Councilman Rick Jennings and his staff for a walk around William Land Park.  Discussions laid the groundwork for a productive partnership in 2022. We didn’t cover all 160 acres, but covered a large portion as we trekked around the WPA Rock Garden, Amphitheater, Sutter Stream, Fairytale town and the Sacramento Zoo.  Jennings shared a long-time appreciation for William Land Park. He has fond memories of coaching little league at Doc Oliver Field. He continues to be an avid player among golfers on William Land Golf Course.

During the tour, Jennings said he was introduced to areas of the park he hadn’t noticed before. He saw the need for maintenance and attention while noticing the parks potential. We know Land Park has been “well loved” and is a bit worn down in areas. Jennings team is planning to address this. We discussed possible projects such as; upgrades to bathrooms, repainting and fixing of porticos and other seating areas, plus simple upgrades to the amphitheater.

The Jennings city council team shared a basic approach to serving their constituents: provide excellent customer service and focus on raising the quality of life for all. Some project may take more time, but don’t give up. That’s the TEAM philosophy: Together Everyone Achieves More. We agree, and our beloved park is a great place to begin!

Although our board is eager to work with our new councilman and his wonderful staff, patience is important. The change in districts was immediate and D7 has several more parks now, including ours. The LPCA is meeting with the Jennings team over the next few months to discuss a “plan of action” for 2022. This includes events, public safety, zoo space discussions and other topics of interest to the Land Park community.  Once a clear strategy is in place, you will be informed.

If you are interested in being a part of positive change for this year, consider joining the LPCA board or leading a committee. If you are not a member, become one!

Here’s to a fresh start in the coming year with District 7 councilman Rick Jennings and his wonderful team!
