NEWS

Hello Everyone,

Last night (4-17-21) we had a protest in the downtown area. Some of you have reached out to share your concerns for the officers who were injured. Thank you for your kind words and support!

Details on preparing for the protest:

On Thursday, we learned via social media that Antifa would be protesting last night. Therefore, we took some steps to ensure we had appropriate staffing to manage the protest, plus still be able to respond to all 911 calls and provide safety for you and your families. These are the steps we took:

  • All specialty teams were mandated to work.
  • Many detectives were mandated to work.
  • Graveyard officers were mandated to come in early, prior to their standard shift. They had to work the extra hours in addition to their normal shift.
  • Swing shift officers were dedicated to the protest for the majority of their shift.

Details on the protest:

  • The protestors were dressed in black. Some had helmets and shields. One protestor was observed with a lit flare.
  • The Sacramento County Sherriff’s Office located a bag of rocks near a government building.
  • Protestors from the group vandalized a business downtown and an electrical box.
  • Protestors from the group threw rocks at our officers. On rock hit an officer. Fortunately, the officer was not injured.
  • Protestors from the group got into arguments with patrons at restaurants near 20th / K Streets.
  • Protestors from the group used strobe lights against our officers.
  • A protestor from the group sprayed an unknown liquid substance at our officers. Four officers were injured and transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The substance caused irritation to the skin. At this point, we do not have any details on what this substance was.

These protests present significant staffing challenges for us. I am extremely proud of our officers who change their schedules, work extra hours, sacrifice being with their loved ones and continue to display extreme professionalism during these events. As we prepare for potential additional protests, please know that our service to all of you and your families will not be impacted. We will have an all-hands-on deck approach to ensure we have staffing for any potential protests and not compromise our service to keeping you and your families safe.

 Thanks,

Vance Chandler

Message from LPCA Board,

We are sharing this information as Land Park is located next to downtown and it is a public safety issue.

Sacramento is preparing to reopen and rebuild. We should be lifting each other up, supporting our businesses and those who truly serve our neighborhoods. We have no interest in people who want to attack officers, tear down buildings, or threaten the public. That is not how communities change for the better. Our goal is to make our neighborhood a place that raises the quality of life for all.

Our association board met on Saturday to discuss plans for this year. We are creating fun events, developing new relationships and collaborating with our officers, local businesses and community leaders. The LPCA’s goal for 2021 is to build bridges, not tear them down. We invite neighbors and other neighborhood leaders to team up with us to make real, positive change happen in our own backyards.
